Visiting scholar Professor Ignatius Whiskerby of the Northern College of Feline Economics will deliver the annual Ledbetter Lecture on Thursday at 5 in the Great Hall. His subject is The Economics of the Empty Bowl: Scarcity, Expectation and the Midnight Cry.

Professor Whiskerby will argue that the empty bowl is not a state but an event, and that its meaning is wholly determined by whoever is looking at it. His earlier work on the elasticity of begging was described by one critic as moving and by another as noisy.

Tickets are free. Attendees are asked to bring their own bowls so that the lecture may be properly illustrated.
